Mr. F. & Mr. D.

Here at Mustang Maniac we get strange requests for all sorts of things, most of which we can cope with some we won’t entertain for some obvious reasons. However we will let you into a couple of conversations of genuinely true stories, but we will only tell it once because the outcome is the same as you will see why:

We received a phone call from a customer who “Just wanted a “D””, he later went on to explain what he actually wanted was a single letter “D” for the lip of his hood. Of course we have the “F.O.R.D.” Scott Drake set that has all four letters in a pack for £20. But, his guy wanted us to open a packet up and sell him just the “D” for a couple of pounds. What would we do with an incomplete set of letters, why not just replace all the lettering on the hood? So we agreed we would just send a “D”, but it would still be £20. Needless to say he said he could “buy a whole pack for that!” Exactly our point, unfortunately he wasn’t happy and we heard no more, which unfortunately wasn’t our aim to upset customers at all. The other true story was the same, the only difference this time was a request for the letter “F” with exactly the same style conversation taken place a few days later. We honestly thought it was a prank call.

By a random coincidence a couple of weeks ago we had a car in for a winter service and the hood lettering of the “O” & the “R” was missing from a recently applied new set of letters, so we were asked to replace the missing letters which we did of course from a pack. So as you can guess – we now unusually have a spare “F” & “D”. Most of the time if we change one letter will change the whole lot as standard so they all look the same and not some tarnished and some sparkly new ones.

F D letters

Mr F & Mr D

Then we had a thought, as a one-off or in this case a two-off, we just wanted to say to Mr F and Mr D – we now have your letters individually – so please give us a call and I’m sure we can sort you out a very favourable prices if you are still interested. We always try to help out our customers where we can.

Cars:

We get many rare cars in here in our workshops, famous cars and celeb owners of cars, but for confidential reasons we don’t divulge them all. But, we have a car here that was famous in its own right back in the ’70’s, she even appeared on a few covers and in a few centre pages on various hot rod and custom car magazines. The car was delivered to us to be looked at for a potential restoration. Now this car in her heyday was a real head turner, now you would probably look the other way. She does look a little worse for rust and rot should we say to be kind, but underneath the structure is sound and chassis legs are fine. Of course we have from some cars of our own stock that are rotten underneath, but the their metal work is fine. So we could make up a car from the pair quite easily or just add new panels, but the finances and time involved have yet to be agreed. For now this tired old legend awaits her fate! Will her Dixie horns ever sound again, we just don’t know, but surely the heritage of the car could just well be worth it.

Last week we mentioned in our blog that the a ’67 body shell was purchased “with a donor car from our stock.” This was incorrect and apologies to our customer who pointed out the error, thank you. The donor car is in fact the customers car and what we meant to say was “it’s now with stored with our stock”. Our excuse was that it was a busy day when the post was written up. However, we are genuinely very excited about this project build, and we will bring you pictures of the car all panelled up before she gets her coats of paint. The shell at this point really does look menacing all in a satin black we must say! We will also be running our regular update features of this project car from a shell and donor to an awesome show car. There will be a dedicated page for this project in our project cars very soon, so watch this space.

Classic Car Tax Discs:

What we have failed to mention was the fact that these tax discs also have the standard wording on the back from that classic motoring era. A customer has pointed it out to us that we didn’t mention it on the description, we just thought it was obvious that all, so here is a pic of the wording on the back – all be it the Mustang Maniac stamped version.

Our WebShop has sold a number of the tax discs for non mustang owners too now. So make that stocking filler something a little different and nostalgic.

Getting T10 Into Gear

The problem we have during this time of year is trying to keep the customers cars dry and out of the rain. We shuffle things around in the workshops and work on what we need to. Some of these cars are not very water tight should we say as they are only ever out in the sun, the last thing we want is to have a mobile foot spa for our customers when they come to collect them.

We have just back a 1964 – ’65 Borg Warner T10 gearbox after a full rebuild. This T10 gearbox was later replaced by the now more familiar “Top Loader” which was used on most Fords from 1964 – ’73. These now very desirable gearboxes are becoming more difficult to be rebuilt correctly, however this gearbox now feels silky smooth and as good as the day it was made. Give us a call to get a quote and get it done properly.

A little while ago we mentioned the new ’66 Coupe i6 that is coming in for a full restoration. At the time the pictures had not been uploaded, but now they are all present and correct. So here is a selection of the car as she arrived. We have had a quick look at her and some work definitely needs to be done as you can see. We need to work out the owners budget on her and just how far this restoration needs to go. Some previous work has been undertaken prior to her arrival with us, like all these things we will need to establish the competency of that work before we start anything else. As we have said before, it can be done as we have proved many times here on this blog.

We have had a ’67 full body shell up for sale for a little while stored in our dry shed as we call it. A customer has seen it and bought it along with a donor vehicle from our stock. Obvious the body work on the donor car does not matter as long as the chassis is fine. So we are now making up the shell ready for paint. We will haves some photos soon of the shell with all the body panels fitter up.  But here is a picture of the basic shell before we start any work on it. Next week we will have some pictures of the shell with full panels and gapped correctly ready for paint.

Our Classic Car Tax Discs:

We have had a sales run on our tax discs and now we have split them up into sections so they can be found much more easily on the WebShop.

  • Mustang Maniac Tax Discs click here.

It was pointed out that we were charging for the Postage and Packaging. This was an error when the system updated with the pictures and we have now correct it. The Postage and Packaging is FREE! now there is no reason not to get one. These Tax Discs would make a great stocking filler Christmas gift for any Classic Car owner. Due to the high interest we are now looking into producing more years 1969 – 1973 soon.

Our Ladie’s Night

After the glorious week in Las Vegas we came back to rain and we were not to impressed, but winter is almost upon us now I guess. We had to move lots of cars around this week as the full bare metal restoration ’66 Coupe was evicted from the panel shop. We delivered her towards the end of the week to her new temporary home where she will be pampered at the paint shop. She will be there for a good few weeks now getting the final prep and paint, we’re looking forward to seeing her in the new colours. Terry made sure nothing was going to happen to his hard work he done on those panels. Both he & John even had a time to hide from Yogi behind the car; we suspect it was because they were trying to avoid making the tea! I could be wrong, but the dog gave the game away.

The panel shop will only be empty for a day or so before it’s filled up with another big project coming in for the same restoration project. We will need to inspect the car properly before we pass judgement on the actual amount of work required on her, depending on how deep those pockets will go of course. It will be another ground up restoration to follow on our blog, hopefully the pictures will be on here next weekend for you with the before and after photos of her arrival.

Anyway back to these ladies of the night, we were locking the yard up and putting some cars away when the urge to take a picture in the dark came into mind. No tripod, no set-up shot, no careful composition, just a snap shot in the dark. We have played with the colours a little to see what you think is best, we couldn’t make our own minds up so we have added a little voting button for you to let us know.

News:

We have a had a little stand up the Birmingham NEC Classic Motor Show, we have some pictures from the show, along with pictures of the launch of our new product that has gone pretty well. We will post a separate blog about that before next weekend; watch this space!

We have now got the last pictures of Las Vegas uploaded to our blog. The Roush Mustang is a pretty spectacular car to say the least, driving to work in this would be like a track day – everyday!

Thanks to Yogette who worked extra hard to keep the office running as smooth as possible while we were at the SEMA 2014 show. She even had a little move around in the office, can you put it all back please? Only joking Yogette.

What Happens In Vegas….

The old saying is “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”, but as Mustang Maniac’s would say that it’s more a case of “What happens in Vegas, goes on the blog!” A very good friend of ours as well as a being a good loyal customer too, had decided to get married here in Las Vegas. Steve has tied the knot with Jo and he has kindly let us use some of the pictures on our blog. Now we don’t normally do this type of thing, apart from Yogi hijacking the blog for Happy Birthdays that is, not that I bear grudges or anything. But, as this was such a special occasion while we were here in a sunny Las Vegas we decided to post it for him, so his secret it out, Steve and Jo are married. As this is a car blog we like to keep it car related so here are the very tenuous links to cars; 1) the pink Caddy they sat in, 2) Steve’s wedding attire. It was a great day and a lot of fun too we honestly enjoyed the whole thing.

Thanks to Steve & Jo for letting us post their happy day on our blog.

Congratulations Steve & Jo we wish you all the very best for the future.

Las Vegas

SEMA 2014 is now officially over so we have a day or so before we fly back. Yet another gorgeous day so we have some pictures of Las Vegas for you to start with, a couple in day light with a clear sky and the more familiar neon night shots.

The day was so nice we decided to go for a drive and we stopped off at a car dealers or two and looked at their stock, we’re only interested in the Mustangs of course just to see what was out there. We had taken some pictures of the cars with their sales tickets which makes an interesting read, you can buy a new car and have the Shelby package added to it as this car was.

The other cars were a mixture of new cars on the nice shiny floor tiles and second-hand cars outside, we took a picture of the whole sales yard which was enormous as you would expect in the USA.

During the evening we came across a famous car that was owned by Liberace on display at a venue, this car was even on stage with him at his last concert in 1986.

We hear it’s been terrible weather in the UK, so we can’t wait to come back, well sort of anyway!

SEMA 2014 – Part 3

SEMA again today, so here are a few more pictures of Mustangs to be getting along with. Today will be a little different as it’s all about looking for tools that could help us out back at the work shops and forging those so important contacts for the products we like the look of, I think we still have some business cards left we can give out.

Some nice custom interiors were on display.

We can’t forget the convertibles especially in a place like Las Vegas

Another notable car that you don’t see everyday, the Batmobile.

batmobile

We thought we would put up a couple of pictures Las Vegas in the day time, everything all seems very different in the sun. The famous Golden Nugget casino and a rather unfortunate picture where I was just standing there looking for my phone standing next to this street stall, such a coincidence!

Unfortunately as there has been lots of walking, that  means we have to keep the calorie and fluid intakes up, as it’s hot that means we have to drink beer, but I am sure you don’t want to hear my tales of woe!

SEMA 2014 – Part 2

As promised we have uploaded more photos from the SEMA show, including the excellent Ford Stand which we will kick off with, there’s even a picture of the much talked about King Cobra which looks even better up close than the media pictures suggest.

At the Ford stand we spotted the NASCAR legend Richard Petty in front of the King Cobra.

richard_petty

While we are on the subject of celebs – Adam meets Richard Rawlings.

Around the world there have been some amazing drivers with superb car control, one name sticks out – Ken Block. He’s had millions of hits on YouTube with his Gymkhana antics. Here at SEMA he has one of his cars here and it’s a classic Mustang. We seriously want a go in this one!

While we are talking racers there is this modified street legal track day car Mustang by MRT.

And last but no means least is this found Shelby GT500. It still has the dirt on it from what ever barn she was found in.

And of course there will be more tomorrow!

Videos:

We have posted the quick video of a Mustang doing it’s best to trash a set of tyres which can be found on our YouTube Channel or click here for the quick link.

SEMA 2014 – Part 1

The SEMA 2014 show opened in style as you would expect and it’s great to be back here again. The question is always where do we start? We have plans but they always go straight out the window when we get here. The decision was to take it as we found it, good ol’ plan B. There was plenty of classic and new Mustangs at the show as we were expecting, of course we took plenty of pictures because we like Mustangs. There is not too much else to say about the stands so we will let the pictures do the talking on our behalf. There will be more pictures to come as soon as we sort them out and upload them of course.

Outside:

General Motors had a nice truck on display:

Inside there was some accessory manufacturers with their products, we especially like the nice stitching around the dash pad. Other colours to match the paint work?

There was new style Mustangs:

And there were the Classic Mustangs:

There is much, much more tomorrow.

Don’t worry the Ford Stand is absolutely amazing and we will post those pictures tomorrow for you, there was even a famous NASCAR racing driver Richard Petty – The King as he was also known, whom we managed to grab a picture of too. Check out tomorrow’s post for more pictures from the show including a rare barn find! We also have a little video of a Mustang being given a fair bit of grief and shredding tyres much to the delight of the crowd, that will be on our YouTube channel very soon, click here for a link to our YouTube channel.
