Tops Off

We like to pride ourselves on being one of the best in the country if not “The Best” for Mustang restorations, our customers are loyal and return on a regular basis whether for a standard service, repairs or upgrades. A number of our customers have more than one Classic Car and not all them are Mustangs. So on the odd occasion for the good customers and friends of ours we will make exceptions. This week was one of those “Chevy” occasions.

’63 Corvette 

This little lady is the a beauty and in great condition. Obviously for the parts we have to source those in unless it’s a generic part, like bulbs etc. It will be a shame to see her go back home as this car drives as well as it looks especially with the roof down in the sun shine and the crackle from the side pipe exhausts. Oh yes!

 

’73 Convertible

The Ford connection is here with this car, the guy who owns this lovely original condition car also worked for the Ford Dagenham plant in London. A seriously well looked after car and pleasure to see them looking this good in the sunshine.

Adams ’73 Convertible

Not to be outdone by the customers topless cars, Adam got his ’73 out for a road trip out, as he would say “it’d be rude not to!” Somewhere in the countryside he stopped to take a few pics, we’re not sure if this was just a picture break or a combined “comfort stop”. Adam was gone a while and had been drinking lots of tea before he left, just sayin’. Nice job of the pics though.

Earlier in the week Adam was trying out his new wheels and tyres combination. He settled for this look, a good choice it was we would say, he is also using his Mustang Maniac red Hub centers to match the car paint, and the white wall for the roof.

We had a brand new item in stock is our ’64 to ’69 Mustang trunk sound proof mat. We sold one to Mart with his ”66 Coupe and he kindly sent us some pics of the install for us. We checked with Drake and the Black side does indeed go down on top of the tank. This mat will help protect the fuel tank and mask some noise that resonates from the truck area.

Before fitting you can remove the protective plastic on the black side to help stop the mat slipping around on the tank surface. The Black side has a very slight tack to it but not sticky so can be easily moved around if needed.

The fit of the mat is inside the drop off sections.

With the truck mat refitted and all back in place.

Mart’s verdict of the product;

“A thick sound proof mat like the fire wall sound proofing, a great product as you would expect. Good fit which only took minutes to fit (after I had cleaned the complete trunk area). The good part; is that it has certainly muffled some drone from the trunk area and the top of the tank has a nice protection to it. The bad is that the exhaust is not as loud now 😉 But, if you put sound proofing in that’s what you expect. I’m pleased with it.”

Enjoy the sun, check the radiator fluids, keep the sun cream on and keep an eye on the pets in the heat. This is supposed to be the hottest May Bank Holiday on record. We shall see.

Under Cover

We’re back to posting on our normal Sunday slot again, hope you didn’t miss us too much last week. We thought we get straight into today with updates on the customers cars and where we are with those.

Customers Cars:

Jacqui’s ’69

With the car back from paint work has begun on getting the car back together again.

Work has started on the sound proofing on the inside, a good upgrade, not cheap and nobody will ever get to see it as it’s covered up under the carpet!

With the parts being taken home by Roy for some “homework” they are then returned restored ready to fit back on the car, providing Adam and Yogi are happy with them first of course.

We tend to use our static dust cover sheets for short-term storage that clings to the paintwork when she is covered, lightweight and easy to remove without damage to the paint. Ideal solution ready for the next working session.

We had a little play with the colour filters, which changes the look and feel – any particular one you like best, the original, black and white or the moody low light version?

BRC (Blue Racing Coupe)

The engine on this little lady was given a check over and the first lick of paint ready to go back into the car.

The engine was put back together with the re-coated headers, and new rocker valve covers.

428 Super Cobra Jet

We didn’t take long to discover where the leak was under the dash. We could smell the antifreeze in the car so that can only point to on thing, the heater matrix. We removed the matrix and confirmed it was the cause of the leak. With the part replaced and fluids topped back up again it was time for a small service and check up underside. The oil and filter were changed as part of the standard service. With all the fluids where they now should be, it was time for a tune up of the carb to make her run smoother and more responsive. Job Done!

Work Shop News:

Adam has been on spending spree, (again). This time it was an expensive upgrade to the workshops as we are getting more and more requests to geometry alignment to the suspensions on these classic Mustangs. We use our own tried and tested specifications which are a slight tweak from the recommended book setups, but don’t ask the guys for the details because they won’t reveal it! Feedback from our customers is very positive after the fine tuning suspension set ups, word of mouth has got around that this really can make a difference to the car’s overall handling. There is still a Geo unit in Yogi’s work shop and now Adam has the very latest laser technology from Snap-On in his workshop. The logical reasoning behind the purchase is that it’s not always possible to Geo the cars when one is on the ramp unable to be moved, because it’s in bits – for now. Adam will also use it for the other vehicles in his LAR and SMR fleet vehicles too.

Book yourself into the workshop for a geometry suspension check up, it will also save your tyres wearing unevenly, unless you do lots of accidental burn-outs that is, then we can’t help you there! 😉

KR Replica Update

Things are moving on very nicely with the KR replica. We are now finishing the custom exhaust, rear lights and detail of the engine. The inside has the shifter in place and the custom wiring location is looking very good for that under the hood minimalistic look which was a request for this build. The sound proofing is in to insulate the cabin from the bark of the exhausts. The air conditioning has been piped up and the rest of the water pipes are being fitted. The oil sump is polished, the exhaust is polished, the door strikers are polished and the whole look of the car just begs your attention. The rear lights have had some of our bespoke LED lighting units fitted into the classic all red lenses that will flash orange for the indicators, but they can’t be seen until used which will maintain that stock factory look. Detail on this car is fantastic and has to be seen to be believed.

Our Yard:

Meanwhile all this great work has been going on with the KR we were caught unaware by a flash flood. It looks like a small section of a stream not to far from us was blocked and water backed up very quickly and crept into the yard. The water also got to one of the workshops, but we fired the pump up and drained it all out, but as the stream was full it was a bit of a nightmare to be honest. We would like to point out that the customers cars were out of the way in other work shops so they were safe which is a priority of course. The one workshop with water and a customer car was lifted into the air, Sorted. The dogs were a little confused by the water although a couple of them didn’t seem to mind! It could have been a lot worse.
